 | LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS FOR ALILA VILLAS ULUWATU WIN PRESIDENT'S DESIGN AWARD 2007 | ..10 Dec 2007 |
| | Organised by the DesignSingapore Council and the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the President’s Design Award has two categories – Designers of the Year for individuals and Designers of the Year for specific projects, and is given to individuals and designs that push boundaries. Mr Casey Gan and Ms Lim Swe Ting of Cicada, the landscape architects for Alila Villas Uluwatu, won the Designers of the Year award for their outstanding contributions to landscape design. |

| | Cicada Landscape Architecture has been nominated for the Singapore President's Design Award for their work on the Alila Villas Uluwatu project. The award confers national recognition and recognises top designers in the fields of architecture and urban design, fashion design, industrial and product design, interior design and visual communications design. |

| | In May, I joined a group of Singapore journalists on a trip to Bali to view Alila Villas Uluwatu – Alila’s debut residential and resort development, designed by Singapore-based architects, WOHA.This is the first project in Bali that is eco-friendly from the ground up.That means it is designed, built and maintained according to environmental sustainability.

| | Its President and CEO, Mark Edleson, is a native Californian who has spent most of the past 38 years in southeast Asia. First arriving in Malaysia as a volunteer with the American Peace Corps, he consulted in both finance [including nine years as Vice President at Citibank before establishing his own financial-advisory firm] and the hotel industry before founding Alila with an existing property in Jakarta in 2001.
